Purpose of this website
Summer 2004. This website is created for two important reasons.
The first is to have all the slideshows accessible in one place; the second is to make them available to all the visitors of the website through a free download, in order to make these messages known to as many people as possible. In fact anyone can freely download all the slideshows to send them wherever they want to.
The Word of God must be WELCOMED, READ, MEDITATED, ASSIMILATED, PUT INTO PRACTICE, EXPERIMENTED and then SPREAD because where it will be welcomed, it will produce good spiritual fruits. The Word of God is light for those who wander in the dark, forgetting about centuries of Christian and humanistic culture, and look for the solutions to their problems in places where they will never be able to find them. Instead we have to confront oursleves with the Word of God which helps us to live according to the Magnificent Plan, the Creator of the Universe and of our life. The rules to live well in this world and within the relationship with ourselves and God, are enclosed in the Holy Scriptures. How can one ignore this immense heritage of divine wisdom? God created the world according to one of His precise projects and, through His Word, sent us the manual with all the instructions so that we can better live this life: man often wants to ignore God and His laws and to act as he chooses. The drama of mankind is in fact to exclude God from our life. _________________________________
The author of the slideshows
Gaetano Lastilla was born in Italy in 1943 and now lives in Florence. He is married and has two sons. Gaetano is a practicing and devout Catholic and has personally experienced how the Word of God, as written in the Bible, is truthful and effective. That is why he maintains that the Word has to be spread and diffused everywhere (see the parable of the Sower),even via Internet, which is often an infinite ocean of words, many of which are empty, vulgar and meaningless. In order to sow the Word of God through the Internet, Gaetano uses e-mail and Power Point presentations. That is how his slideshows are created. Once a week, Gaetano prepares a slideshow, selecting the images from his personal collection of thousands of jpg image files. Through the use of internet and e-mail, his messages arrive in a split second all over the world, reaching the personal computer of professionals, students, housewives, teachers, clerks and so on: the fact that the messages arrive unexpectedly, provides the recipient with the opportunity to meditate. It is understood that in order to receive these messages, an agreement from the receiver (who doesn't necessarily have to be a church-goer) is required. The hope is that all the receivers of these messages, in their turn, will spread the Word of God amongst their friends, relatives and acquaintances, who then in turn will pass them on, so that the Word of God will reach the heart of a lot of people, especially of those who have not received the Grace to know Jesus deeply. In order to read these messages (pps files), receivers must have Power Point installed on their personal computers. Besides his audiovisual creations, Gaetano devotes his time to other Christian commitments of a practical nature; for example, he is personally involved in the movement of evangelization called "Cursillos de Cristiandad" (1) where he plays a leading role, he also actively participates in his local parish, in the Diocesan Council as representative of Cursillos, in the "Camillian Family", as editor of the fortnightly magazine and at the St John of God New Hospital in Florence as Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist. He is also the organizer of a Bible study group that meets weekly at his house to meditate together the Word of God.

My dearest reader, forgive me for being informal and if I prefer to greet you with a “ciao” which I mean in its original sense of “at your service” type of salutation.
I am Amelia, a child of two worlds. I was born in Calabria and raised in the States; I am now 45 and I do my best to keep alive the old farmers’ values stemming from my land as well as the teachings of the Jesuit Fathers who, first, welcomed me in their University in Detroit. After years of studies (in Michigan and in Indiana) and the intimate need to continue my life-growth where I was born, I returned to Italy, just about a decade ago.
Having in part appeased this need, in the last few years, I have rediscovered our Faith, also thanks to St. Francis of Assisi; and, I have started to walk along its path. It isn’t easy for me to talk about it but I can assure you that whenever I am able keep my heart still and tell our Lord my worries, everything changes. Things take on a different perspective and I am able to take another small step along the path of life. This is not to imply that I accept everything at face value. When questions arise, I try not to be afraid of them; they come because our human intelligence demands so and they are fundamental for growth. I find the path to be quite tortuous, but I am not alone on it…
In addition to this intimate side of me, I split my time between family, a bit of sport, community and translating. For the last 2/3 years, I have been helping “Spreading the Word” in translating the English version of the slides that Gaetano prepares, whom I met through internet. I do it mainly because the Good Lord blessed me with belonging to two worlds and I hope that, through this little contribution of mine, we don’t feel so alone in the indifference and the solitude of heart that, sad to say, so many times is ready to jump on us.

THEME: "Internet: A New Forum for Proclaiming the Gospel" The Internet causes billions of images to appear on millions of computer monitors around the planet. From this galaxy of sight and sound will the face of Christ emerge and the voice of Christ be heard? For it is only when his face is seen and his voice heard that the world will know the glad tidings of our redemption. This is the purpose of evangelization. And this is what will make the Internet a genuinely human space, for if there is no room for Christ, there is no room for man. Therefore, on this World Communications Day, I dare to summon the whole Church bravely to cross this new threshold, to put out into the deep of the Net, so that now as in the past the great engagement of the Gospel and culture may show to the world "the glory of God on the face of Christ” (2 Cor 4:6). May the Lord bless all those who work for this aim.
